.500 For the Week
The St Marys Mites hosted Exeter #1 on Wednesday then travelled to Mitchell on Thursday to take on their #2 squad.

At Teddy’s vs Exeter, Natalie Johnston took to the mound and despite a couple of hit batters, managed to keep the visitors off the scoreboard.  In the bottom of the inning, the bats were flying as the Mites had six hits for five runs on RBI’s from Johnston, Sarah Lynch, Angelina Vanderwal, and Grace Hillman with two on hard hit double to give St Marys a 5 – 0 lead.

In the second, Exeter loaded the bases with only one out, but Johnston dug deep and struck out the next two to preserve the 5 – 0 advantage.  In the second, Billie Sedly led off with a walk, followed by a single from Kaitlyn DeBoer.  Johnston then reached on a fielder’s choice as DeBoer was thrown out at second.  Next up, Erin Green stepped in to the batter’s box and was hit by a pitch to load the bases bringing Lynch to the plate.  Lynch wasted no time hitting the first pitch deep to right field for a grand slam giving the Mites a 9 – 0 lead.

Ava Ansley came on in relief in the third and faced some hungry Exeter batters who were able to claw out five runs.  However, the Mites answered back with five of their own in the bottom of inning on RBI’s from Sedly, Johnston, Lynch, and Vanderwal with two.  The five runs gave the Mites a 14 – 5 victory and was their sixth win in a row.

On Thursday in Mitchell, the Mites went three up/three down to start the game bringing Lynch to the mound in the bottom of the inning.  Lynch surrendered two walks that were cashed in on a triple and gave up another run on a single as Mitchell jumped out to a 3 – 0 lead.

In the top of the second, Hillman led off with a double, and came home on a single from Sedly.  Lynch drove Sedly home on a RBI double making it a 3 – 2 game.  Unfortunately that was all scoring for the inning as the next two batters struck out.  In the bottom of the inning, Mitchell cashed in two more runs off Lynch to take a 5 – 2 lead into the third.  St Marys added one run in the top of third on a RBI from Sedly who also took to the mound in the bottom of the inning.  However, the Mitchell bats continued to hit as the Mites took only their second loss of the season losing 10 – 3.

The Mites have a couple weeks off as their next scheduled game is not until July 29 at Teddy’s.  However, they still have three away games to make up due weather so they may have something before then.
