Patience pays off for Exeter 2
On Thursday, the Mites travelled to Exeter to take on the number two squad.  The girls were hoping their bats would come alive, and they weren’t disappointed opening up a 5 – 0 lead after the first inning.

Starting pitcher Avery Aarts struck out three of five to maintain the five run lead.  St Marys added one more in the second making it 6 – 0 as Kaylee Fowler got her first hit as rookie and came home on a RBI single by Elora Vanderwal.  Exeter fought back in the bottom of the second scoring five of their own to close the gap to one run at 6 – 5.  Top of the third saw three more runs making it 9 – 5 on RBI’s by Bailey Ashton, Lauren Gracey and Natalie Johnson.  Exeter battled back in the bottom of the third to take the lead at 9 – 10.  The Mites were able to score three in the top of the fourth taking a two run lead into the bottom of the inning thanks to RBI’s by Kaitlyn Deboer, Vanderwal, and Julia Cameron.  Unfortunately, Exeter muscled five runs in the bottom of inning and stole the victory.

Next up for the Mites is a weekend tournament in Mitchell.
