Two of Three and Above .500
The St Marys Hawkins Cabinetry Mite Girls Fastball team looked to improve their 6 – 6 league record with three games in the last two weeks.

On June 30 the Mites travelled to Exeter to take on their #1 squad.  The girls were on the losing end of their first match-up so were eager to come out with the “W.”  In a hard fought game, the Mites battled and were persistent with an 8 – 7 win to go above the .500 mark for the first time since early June.

Next up the Mites took on Mitchell 1 in Mitchell on July 7.  St Marys had a 2 – 0 record against the Mitchell 1 squad and from the opening pitch, there was no doubt the Mites were going to improve to 3 – 0 as the Hawkins girls cruised to a 13 – 4 win improving their season record to 8 – 6.

On Wednesday, Exeter 1 was in town and with their recent loss to the Mites, you know they were looking for a little retribution.  However, starting pitcher Julia Cameron had other plans and after striking out two, got the Exeter batter to pop up and Chantel Johns recorded the out to end the top of the first.  In the bottom of the inning, the Mites had the bases loaded for Elora Vanderwal who drew an RBI walk.  Johns then came to the plate and delivered and RBI single as St Marys took a 2 – 0 lead. There was no scoring in the top of the second but in the bottom, St Marys opened up a 4 – 0 lead on RBI singles by Bailey Ashton and Cameron.   Exeter, despite being down in the top of third, were very patient.  As we know, patience pays off and Exeter scored five runs in the top of third to take a 4 – 5 lead.  They built a 4 – 10 lead in the top of the fourth as they cruised to a 6 – 12 victory over the hometown Mites.  St Marys is still a game above .500 and they travel to Sebringville on July 14.
