After a rainout and
tournament two weeks ago, the St Marys Norampac Squirts returned to Huron/Perth
Fastball action last week still looking for that illusive first win of the
season. On Tuesday, the Squirts hosted
Shakespeare at Teddy’s Field and the visitors scored their maximum allowable
runs in each of the three innings as they downed St Marys 15 – 10. Ava Ansley and Sarah Lynch shared the
pitching duties in the loss. Picking up hits
were Lynch (single and a home run), Karissa Waghorn (double and single), Grace
Hillman (double) and Kaitlyn DeBoer (single) with RBI’s going to Lynch (4), Waghorn,
Katie Gratton, Nicole Rock, Kaitlyn
DeBoer, while Emma Luyten and Hayden MacDonald both stole home.
On Wednesday, the Squirts travelled to Optimist Park in Tavistock and were shut out losing 9 – 0. St Marys sent only fourteen batters to the plate with no hits being recorded. Gratton reached base in the first on a walk but was the third out on a fielder’s choice by Lynch. MacDonald drew a base-on-ball to lead off the third, but the Tavistock pitcher struck out the next three Squirts to end the inning. In the fourth and final inning, it was three up, three down as St Marys took their sixth loss of the season.
Next up, Tavistock # 2 comes to town on Tuesday followed by a road game to Baden on Wednesday.
